The T2 Center Keeps Pilot/Escorts Well Informed with Updates

Published on: 05/22/2017

As the sole provider of Pilot/Escort Flagging Training for the Florida Department of Transportation, the University of Florida (UF) is the go-to source for pilot/escort information.

Rules on pilot/escorting in Florida are updated on occasion with no grace period on new rules being ticketable offenses. Pilot/Escorts are highly encouraged to check for rules changes at least once per year at https://www.flrules.org/

Recent changes include:

  •  On-board equipment: One (formerly two) Class ABC fire extinguisher minimum 5 pounds .
  • The Permittee is responsible for providing the escort with a copy of the permit prior to the move.

Several states require a course similar to Florida’s. Florida accepts these course certificates in lieu of the Florida course certificate. Most of these states also accept the Florida course certificate in return. Pilot/escorts are cautioned to contact each state on their requirements.

States known to offer similar 8-hour courses:

  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Georgia
  • Minnesota
  • North Carolina
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • Utah
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • Wisconsin
